Purpose Statement

The purpose of my study was to determine if a math workshop model will increase student achievement in math fact fluency and number sense.

Background
  • My district has specific goals, cut scores, and assessments that focus on student growth in math fact automaticity. 

  • The new AIMSWeb assessment, which identifies at-risk students early and allows for progress monitoring, was given in the Fall, Winter, and Spring. The District decided to increase the benchmark scores this year, resulting in multiple students being flagged as needing support.

  • In my school, the first grade team has placed a large focus on mastering single and two digit-addition and subtraction facts.
